Through Lines 052

I’ve been compiling these weekly recaps of internet finds and interesting links for 52 weeks now; a year most of us probably want to mostly forget, but hey — there’s been a few things to keep us all going such as intimate at home performances from many of our favorite musicians, like Crowded House above.

  • This incredible restored 16mm footage of a young Genesis performing in France in 1973 is quite something — including a great moment of Peter Gabriel appearing in his wife’s red dress and fox’s head. This is not the band most people know from the height of their success and popularity in the 80s.
  • Speaking of the 80s, Crowded House has long been a personal favorite, especially when you combine the vocal melodies of not just one Finn brother, but two — here in their MTV Unplugged session.
  • I have a soft spot for Amusing Ourselves to Death, Roger Waters’ 1992 solo album. He just released a newly recorded version of The Bravery of Being Out of Range from that LP with his current and excellent touring band.
  • I saw prototypes about a year ago while visiting their HQ in Amsterdam so it’s exciting to see the new Polaroid Go finally unveiled. Looks like fun!
  • Over the seven seasons of Clone Wars, Ahsoka Tano easily proved that there can be incredibly well-rounded and beloved characters within the Star Wars universe that aren’t part of the original trilogy. This is one hell of a (not-quite) action figure.
  • Puffin Arcade from Pieter van Rosmalen and released through Bold Monday type foundry is the bitmap font family you are looking for. Truly brilliant!
  • Swooning over Logic Monospace from MCKL type. That monoscript… extra fab.
  • Mind-blowing Afrofuturism LEGO builds from artist Ekow Nimako. Whoa.
  • Adam Grant hits the nail on the head: “You can’t heal a sick culture with personal bandages. We still live in a world that normalizes physical health challenges but stigmatizes mental health challenges.” Required reading.
  • Ted Lasso season 2 is coming July 23rd. Yeeeeeessssss!
